Iman Cosmetics Fall 2011 Campaign+Interview with Parade Magazine

Kinee Diouf (middle) is among 3 models featured in the Fall 2011 campaign for Iman Cosmetics.  Smoke & Mirrors – Deep Seductive tones of slate gray, burnished metals and smoky sepias get a fresh new feel with a sexy shot of shimmer.

Iman’s stunningly regal beauty helped pave the way for women of color on catwalks for decades. But, it wasn’t until after her modeling career that the Somalia-native changed the beauty industry forever.

Founding IMAN Cosmetics in 1994, Iman, 56, became a pioneer in showcasing complementary cosmetic shades for a wide range of skintones.

After 17 years of filling a void in the beauty business, the mom and entrepreneur shares some of her most valuable lessons and beauty tips with Parade.com.

On the success of the Iman brand.
“I am delighted that the brand has hit a core with the customers, but I never doubted its success and I’m overjoyed by its longevity.”

On her most valuable business lesson.
“The greatest business lesson has been to stay on course and believe in the ‘philosophy and mission statement’ of my brand and not try to chase trends. My most cherished advice has been ‘Always know your worth.'”

Tips for busy moms on-the-go.
Don’t let motherhood stop you from looking your best. I would definitely advise women to simplify their beauty regimen and find what works for them (the right foundation/concealer, bronzer and lip stains rather than lipsticks or lip glosses). If you only have 7-8 minutes in the morning, you can still look your great with a couple of beauty basics:

· A double duty product like my Luminous Foundation, which is makeup & powder in one step.
· Add a little mascara and a lip gloss and finish with my favorite must-have product, Afterglow Sheer Bronzing Powder – it’s a blush, bronzer and an eye shadow, all in one
· Most importantly, eat right, get enough sleep, exercise, wear SPF (regardless of your skin color) and hydrate. If you take care of these, it will show on your face.

Her beauty brand’s most universally flattering product.
“The IMAN Sheer Finish Powder in Afterglow is a blush/bronzer that is universally flattering for whatever age and skin tone you are.”

On her daily must-have product.
“I’m a firm believer in good skin care; and I use All Day Moisture Complex with SPF 15 daily because I can’t stress enough how important sun protection is for all women, especially women with skin of color – who sometimes forget that darker skin gets sun damage too!”

On her beauty secret for keeping skin vibrant.
“Nothing looks younger and fresher than a flawless complexion. So a good concealer is a must! That’s why I created my multitasking Cover Cream to camouflage imperfections (which we all have). Plus, it pampers your skin with minerals that don’t turn ashy, like other mineral makeup does on deeper skin tones.”

On how her family spends Sundays.
“Sunday are lazy days in our household — mostly making pancakes for breakfast, reading the papers, playing Wii or taking a walk in the park.”
